multicultural cooperation spaces<\/h4><p>\"Builders of multicultural cooperation spaces\" is a cooperation between four European structures that use samba (a musical genre originating in Brazil) to carry out creative, social and civic actions. The cooperation aims to develop the artistic and managerial skills of the personnel involved in order to consolidate and amplify the sambist networks in France and Europe.<\/p><p>Three learning mobilities will be set up to meet very specific objectives:<br \/>\u2022 Deepen artistic skills and broaden the multidisciplinary spectrum of partners' activities;<br \/>\u2022 Train and design tools to structure and grow European sambist networks;<br \/>\u2022 Question the fusion of Brazilian culture with the cultures of the North to draw inspiration from it and promote intercultural engagement.<\/p><p>This program will allow us, in close collaboration with our partners:<br \/>\u2022 To create a common repertoire and disseminate newly acquired artistic skills;<br \/>\u2022 Publish an inventory of existing networks and draw up a list of actions to be put in place to foster partnerships and good practices;<br \/>\u2022 To share adaptations of Brazilian culture by the four partner countries.<\/p><p>Art and culture are seen here as tools for social cohesion, personal fulfillment and international opportunities, as well as a major component of the European economic sector. Since 2015, the cultural association Tartaruga Distinta represents it legally and structures its objectives, which are to spread Brazilian culture through music, especially samba and its variants, with concerts, workshops and cultural events. A Bunda is one of the oldest and most important Samba schools in Europe. It was created in 1984 by a group of Swedes, who wanted to set up activities with Brazilian asylum seekers fleeing the military dictatorship of their country. It is a non-profit cultural organization, built around several poles of artistic, cultural and social activities: percussion and Brazilian dances, street theater (Bouffons characters from Comedia Del Arte), circus arts, harmony and Brazilian singing, costume design, scenography and construction of mobile sets. She acts to promote Brazilian culture and uses the carnival arts as a learning and mediation tool. It thus has extensive experience in the non-formal training of young people and adults.<br \/>This mobility consists of sharing artistic and technical skills. The participants were able to acquire a multidisciplinary learning, mixing dance, music, singing. After the discovery of the samba practices of our Scandinavian friends, it seemed relevant to cross the glances with actors of the Brazilian culture so that they can deliver their glance on the diffusion of the samba in Europe, but also with actors of one of the source cultures of the samba, namely the Portuguese culture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the major issues of the project being the intercultural question, this overview allows the staff of Samba R\u00e9sille to go further by gradually building a 360\u00b0 vision of the intercultural issues related to samba, by asking the right questions to good places: what does samba represent for a Swede, a Finn, a Brazilian, a Frenchman, a Portuguese?\u2026<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From an artistic point of view, while the first two mobilities gave pride of place to the batucada, the Porto mobility is devoted to the roda de samba. Typically Brazilian, the roda is indistinctly a participatory concert space and a space for education \u2013 samba lessons not being the rule in Brazil, it is in the roda that the musicians do their apprenticeship. White inscriptions made with a stencil remind times of war. The labyrinth leads to a big arched room; it\u2019s the rehearsal room of Papagaio samba school.<\/p><p>Very ideal, in 2019, to contain the sound of a bateria de samba, this place was used as an air-raid shelter for kids of a kindergarten near it. It was for protection, when the European countries were at war.\nWe participate in a batucada master class led by Marcus, one of the leaders of Papagaio. Each one of us takes his instrument. I take a tamborim. I used to play the snare drum when I was in Samba R\u00e9sille band (now I\u2019m in the pagode group).<\/p><p>Papagaio plays samba carioca. This rhythm from the south of Brazil accompanies the Rio de Janeiro carnival. The tamborin are played with a fast rotation of the wrist called a \u201cvirade\u201d. Mastering the virade distinguishes the good player of tamborim. This movement, not really worked in Samba R\u00e9sille given a preference for the rhythms of the north of Brazil, always seemed to me impossible to realize.<\/p><p>Wishing to make a good impression in front of Marcus who is showing us the rhythm to work, I first make clumsy virades. Kindly, Marcus shows us the movement again. Then Herisao takes the time to explain that we need to anticipate the movement of the wrist, just before hitting the instrument.<\/p><p>And then, it\u2019s the click! I can do it! I needed to go to Helsinki to finally understand the good movement for the tamborim, which I thought was inaccessible for me.<\/p><p>Well, I should stay modest. I still need to practice a lot for the movement to be written in my brain and become a reflex. But the more important part is done and I live it as a victory. What we notice in this first day of the mobility, it\u2019s the similarity with Rio, the costumes, the music style, the structure of the parade: free figures, standard-bearer, influence from Bahia, dancers, the bacteria accompanying the puxador and the cavaquinho, the \u201cold\u201d guard at the end\u2026 Everything is here! This carnival has, like in Rio, its king and queen, competing very seriously.<\/p><p>This impression of wanting to be really close to what\u2019s happening in Rio, I will find it many times during this week, witnessing the performances of the groups during the \u201cNoite das fantasias\u201d on the stage of the Apollo Club, or during the rehearsal of the GRES Samba carioca in Turku. The costumes made of feathers, colors and glitters, seem to be from the Brazilian carnival. The pieces are accorded to the songs, sophisticated breaks and technically advanced variations give relief, richness and diversity. Unity of style, unity of universe\u2026 Big contrast with us, batuqueiros and batuqueiras of Samba R\u00e9sille, with our \u201cfree style\u201d, our diversity of musical types, and our freedom taken with the carnival codes. Big contrast too with the batucadas from France, where dancing and singing play a limited part. But like in every trip, impressions will be soon surpassed.<\/p><p>On the second day, seminar about samba in Finland and in France. Toni Str\u00f6m tells its story and his desire to dedicate its life to this universe. For him, it\u2019s a real \u201cway of life\u201d. All the members of its family play samba! Harri Engtrand, who had several positions in Papagaio, never missed any carnival since 1991. In Finland, samba is made by passionate people! Toni and Harri spend a lot of energy since the 90\u2019 for their school and for the influence of samba in Finland and abroad. Here, subsidies don\u2019t exceed 10 % of the budget, so they have to find funds, partners and solutions to rent or borrow rehearsal spaces, to pay the electricity, the security during the carnival\u2026 Every member of the school pays to parade.<\/p><p>On the musical side, more of passion, it\u2019s important to talk about demand of level. On top of the rehearsals, musicians train watching Brazilian videos on Youtube. In the Turku school, a player of chocalho wrote a musicology thesis, and the tamborims participated in a workshop with a mestre from the prestigious Mangueira school in Rio. Sami Kontola, who leads one of our masterclasses, got admitted in this school, in Brazil, it was then one of the first European player to get into their bateria. And we find this desire for excellence when he asks us to play really slowly and soft to distinguish the rhythms and focus our attention on harmony. Because the demand of quality is also collective. For that matter, after each carnival, members of the schools debrief joyfully watching their performance to analyze it.<\/p><p>In a little waiting room in the rehearsal place in Turku, I meet Taru, florist and mother of 5 children, who spends her free time making costumes. She shows me pictures of her work: headdresses more than 3 meters high, big dickeys, a dress that she spent more than 80 hours making! Near her, Mari is gently mocking her, telling that during a diner in her house, Taru kept working on one of her piece while watching her saucepans\u2026 We understood it, on the costume side, the commitment is also impressive! Every member has to make his own, and the parents are responsible for the costume of their child. The forms and colors lean in the parade theme, determined by a committee, even if each person can bring its ideas.<\/p><p>This demand for quality contributes to develop strong relationships, more than a team spirit, a family spirit. In Turku again, they invite us to watch the pictures of the school, funded in 1986, and they offer us the catalogue they made for the 20th birthday of the school: extract of articles from prestigious newspapers, pictures of their participation in carnivals, but also pictures of weddings of members who met at the schools, birth announcement for the babies born of these unions\u2026 and everywhere smiles, conviviality and fun.<\/p><p>In the Finnish schools of samba, all the generations are present. During the rehearsals for the carnival, children help to make the costumes, follow the steps of the dancers or play with a ball. Some classes are especially made for them, led by members of the school, and they participate in the parade. Sometimes, boyfriends of the dancers, worried to see them parading lightly dressed, integrate the bateria. And like in every family, new people are coming every year, others leave, others come back or change their role, dancers become musicians, musicians help with the administrative part\u2026<\/p><p>In Finland, samba is more than a copy-paste of the Rio Carnival. Style born from of mix of cultures, this music and its universe produce new cultural mixes, like a virtuous web of artistic and human inventiveness, with connections multiplying endlessly.<\/p><p>Because if the music uses the samba carioca codes, the songs, like the one of Papagaio \u201cAika\u201d (time) are composed in Finnish. In Turku, they try to adapt the theme of the parade to the local environment. This year, the organizing committee chose the artificial intelligence, to link the carnival to the presence of many students in high technologies in the city. And even if they choose not the be politics or religious, themes around the environment were also chose in the past. Regarding the weather, it produces constraints for which they find solutions. In winter, artificial leathers are used because of the humidity and cold, while animal leathers are used for the performances.<\/p><p>During our visits and the masterclasses, I feel the effervescence, the pressure, and what\u2019s at stake during the competition of the carnival. But conviviality is the key word: the desire to share musical moments, to exchange on the cultural practices from a country to another, the good mood during the rehearsals, the energy of the dance. And this is maybe the essence of samba that we can find in Samba R\u00e9sille, this pleasure to be together with music, these rich relationships between individuals. Ce programme nous permettra, en lien \u00e9troit avec nos partenaires\u00a0:\u2022 De cr\u00e9er un r\u00e9pertoire commun et de diffuser les comp\u00e9tences artistiques nouvellement acquises\u00a0;\u2022 De publier un \u00e9tat des lieux des r\u00e9seaux existants et de r\u00e9diger une liste d\u2019actions \u00e0 mettre en place pour favoriser les partenariats et les bonnes pratiques\u00a0;\u2022 De partager les adaptations de la culture br\u00e9silienne par les quatre pays partenaires. L\u2019art et la culture sont envisag\u00e9s ici comme outils de coh\u00e9sion sociale, d\u2019\u00e9panouissement personnel et d\u2019opportunit\u00e9s internationales, ainsi que comme une composante majeure du secteur \u00e9conomique europ\u00e9en. Le projet partage la vision de l\u2019Union Europ\u00e9enne en consid\u00e9rant le secteur cr\u00e9atif comme \u00e9tant \u00ab\u00a0un outil essentiel de sortie de crise\u00a0\u00bb dans la strat\u00e9gie 2020 pour une croissance intelligente, durable et inclusive. Partenaires SSKL \u2013 Finlande A Bunda \u2013 Su\u00e8de Samba Sem Fronteiras \u2013 Portugal SSKL \u2013 Finlande La F\u00e9d\u00e9ration finlandaise des \u00e9coles de samba (Suomen sambakoulujen liitto ry) \u0153uvre pour proposer des exp\u00e9riences et des savoirs sambistes, et pour promouvoir le samba comme loisir au niveau national et international. Elle repr\u00e9sente aujourd\u2019hui 7 \u00e9coles de samba \u00e0 travers la Finlande pour plus de 800 membres, et vise avant tout \u00e0 faire cro\u00eetre les comp\u00e9tences et les connaissances relatives au samba et \u00e0 mettre en \u0153uvre des coop\u00e9rations internationales entre les associations membres et d\u2019autres \u00e9coles de samba. A Bunda \u2013 Su\u00e8de A Bunda est une des plus anciennes et des plus importantes \u00e9cole de samba en Europe. Cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1984 par un collectif de Su\u00e9dois qui a mis en place des activit\u00e9s avec des Br\u00e9siliens demandeurs d\u2019asile dans les ann\u00e9es 1980 fuyant la dictature militaire de leur pays, c\u2019est aujourd\u2019hui l&#8217;une des plus renomm\u00e9es en Europe. C\u2019est une organisation culturelle ouverte, \u00e0 but non lucratif, construite autour de plusieurs p\u00f4les d\u2019activit\u00e9s artistiques, culturelles et sociales. Elle agit pour faire la promotion de la culture br\u00e9silienne et utilise les arts carnavalesques comme outil d\u2019apprentissage et de m\u00e9diation. Compos\u00e9e de plus de 300 membres, elle est organis\u00e9e autour de plusieurs p\u00f4les d\u2019activit\u00e9s de formation artistique, notamment\u00a0en percussions br\u00e9siliennes, danse br\u00e9silienne, th\u00e9\u00e2tre de rue, arts du cirque, harmonie et chant br\u00e9silien, mais \u00e9galement en cr\u00e9ation de costumes, en sc\u00e9nographie et construction de d\u00e9cors mobiles. Samba Sem Fronteiras \u2013 Portugal Samba Sem Fronteiras (Portugal) est un groupe de samba professionnel cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2012 par quatre Br\u00e9siliens et un Portugais r\u00e9sidant \u00e0 Porto. Depuis 2015, l&#8217;association culturelle Tartaruga Distinta la repr\u00e9sente l\u00e9galement et structure ses objectifs qui sont de diffuser la culture br\u00e9silienne \u00e0 travers la musique, en particulier la samba et ses variantes, avec des concerts, des ateliers et des \u00e9v\u00e9nements culturels. L&#8217;organisation a \u00e9galement donn\u00e9 naissance \u00e0 une roda de samba \u00e9galement appel\u00e9e Samba Sem Fronteiras, pour unir les Br\u00e9siliens r\u00e9sidant \u00e0 Porto et tous les amateurs de samba portugais. Les activit\u00e9s du groupe sont multiples et couvrent :\u00b7Cr\u00e9ation et de production musicales : 2018 a \u00e9t\u00e9 l&#8217;ann\u00e9e de la pr\u00e9paration et du lancement du premier album original du groupe, d\u00e9j\u00e0 en pr\u00e9paration pour un deuxi\u00e8me emploi.\u00b7Diffusion : ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, le groupe a sillonn\u00e9 le pays du nord au sud avec des performances live, des festivals, des f\u00eates municipales, des \u00e9v\u00e9nements priv\u00e9s et corporatifs.\u00b7Formation au niveau local et international, comme celles men\u00e9es avec Samba R\u00e9sille en 2019 et 2020. Mobilit\u00e9s Helsinki, Finlande G\u00f6teborg, Su\u00e8de Porto, Portugal Helsinki, Finlande Du 3 au 9 juin 2019Coop\u00e9rer pour grandir\u00a0 \/ Les r\u00e9seaux Cette mobilit\u00e9 a permis d\u2019\u00e9changer autour des particularit\u00e9s des r\u00e9seaux sambistes en Europe et d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir des connaissances sur le fonctionnement en f\u00e9d\u00e9ration de notre partenaire finlandais ainsi que sur la l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9 et la reconnaissance que cela leur apporte. La conception d\u2019outils visant \u00e0 consolider les r\u00e9seaux existants a \u00e9t\u00e9 ainsi possible. Les participants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9galement amen\u00e9s \u00e0 s\u2019interroger sur la culture br\u00e9silienne, son appropriation en Europe et sur le sens de la coop\u00e9ration cr\u00e9ative internationale, notamment gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur participation au carnaval d\u2019Helsinki. Les activit\u00e9s :\u2022 des tables rondes sur l\u2019arriv\u00e9e du samba en Finlande et sur les origines du samba en France ;\u2022 des s\u00e9ances d\u2019information et de discussion sur les origines et l\u2019organisation de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration finlandaise de samba et sur les outils mis en place pour permettre ce travail en r\u00e9seaux ;\u2022 des masters classes de danse et de percussions ainsi que des ateliers de pr\u00e9paration au Carnaval d\u2019Helsinki ;\u2022 des visites d\u2019\u00e9coles de samba hors Helsinki ;\u2022 la participation au d\u00e9fil\u00e9 du carnaval ;\u2022 des visites de l\u2019\u00e9cole de Samba GRES Maciera de Ouro \u00e0 Talinn, Estonie ;\u2022 une rencontre avec le Centre culturel Caisa d&#8217;Helsinki.
